See the Vision, Feel the Vision

In July ‘15, Bill McDermott CEO, SAP, met with an accident and lost the vision in one of his eyes. He is now back at the helm and says, “I am living proof that vision is not what you just see but it's what you feel and how you make other people feel.”

Insight
To the leader's mind’s eye, the promised land he wants to take his flock to, is clearly visible. But it is  only when he FEELS the promise of the destination he is leading them to, that he can carry his people with him.

The Warm Leadership Style

A growing body of research by Amy Cuddy and her colleagues suggests that the way to influence—and to lead—is to begin with warmth. Warmth is the conduit of influence: It facilitates trust and the communication and absorption of ideas. Even a few small nonverbal signals—a nod, a smile, an open gesture—can show people that you’re pleased to be in their company and attentive to their concerns.

Prioritizing warmth as your leadership style helps you connect immediately with your people, demonstrating that you hear them, understand them, and can be trusted by them.
