What is Learning Ability?

So you thought the knowledge of homeopathy and the practice of yoga is beneficial only for keeping people healthy? Rajiv Bajaj  has different ideas.
A key principle in homeopathy is that the cause of all disease is endogenous (unlike allopathy which attributes the environment also as a cause). Applying this thought to his organisation, Bajaj surmised that all organisational problems were rooted within the system.
Similarly, ultimate success in yogic postures lies in their steadiness and balance. Bajaj applied this same thought to the brand positioning of his motorcycles. Bajaj believes application of ideas and concepts from one body of knowledge to another results in the generation of a new language for addressing challenges and issues.

Learning ability therefore lies in how creatively and effectively you are are able to apply and transfer ideas and concepts of knowledge in one field, to the resolution of issues in another.

Dealing With The Uncontrollable

There are some people who are fated to play second fiddle, - eg Shashi Kapoor to Big B, Ronaldo to Messi, & Djokovic to Federer, says sportswriter Akshay Sawai. Bonafide achievers all, but nevertheless not the public's first choice. Djokovic initially  hated the feeling & displayed his ire to the partisan crowds, having taken to yoga and meditation & eating goji berries, he now merely smiles at them.

Insight
Life sometimes throws situations at us that we can neither fight, nor understand why they happen. To deal with such times, each of us has to arrive at his own mix of coping responses.

Learning in New Ways

Faced with the problem of excessive product failures, Rajiv Bajaj turned to unlikely places to glean management lessons. Places such as yoga, homeopathy & even philosophers, like Seneca & Confucius. Yoga taught him that "a posture without a sound position is a monkey on the mat. (Similarly) a brand without a sound position is a commodity in the market."

#MyLearning
When stuck with a problem, think out-of-the-box - look for solutions outside of your industry or field of work. The metaphors & analogies from the learning and practice, drive home the lessons of key imperatives in powerful ways.

Pause. Think. Go.
